Training and Education

UK Screen Association is committed to sourcing and promoting relevant, cost effective training and education. We have strong relationships with the audio visual industries training and funding bodies, in March 2006 Gaynor Davenport (CEO) was appointed to the board of Skillset.

Our Training Committee comprises representatives from each sector covered by the association's remit. This includes, but is not restricted to, post-production, visual effects, outside broadcast, studios and DVD.

This is an easy to use directory of information about current, industry specific and relevant business courses running in the UK. Recommendations have been attached where members of UK Screen have attended the course along with comments and star ratings.

Developing Talented People

A one day interactive and highly practical workshop that looks at the essential tools and methods to get the best out of your working teams be they employees, freelancers or work experience placements. The day allows busy creative managers and business owners the opportunity to understand practical ways in which to develop people's knowledge and skills and how to creatively bridge the skills gaps.

Skillset Subsidy AFX

Adobe After Effects is the industry leading platform for compositing and motion graphics. Ravensbourne College and 01zero-one as partners in the Ravensbourne Skillset Media Academy have received funding from Skillset Film CPD fund to run an introduction and an advanced course. With Skillset support the cost of each course for eligible freelancers has been reduced by £325 but places are very limited.

First Post London
First Post London is the innovative new entrants' trainee programme for the post production industry. Launched in 2006 by Skillset and UK Screen Associations Training Committee, First Post was created to help employers provide structured development for junior employees. It is a modular scheme covering technical, commercial and customer skills and was developed with input from over 30 facility houses to ensure it matches sector needs. First Post is funded by the London Development Agency and industry investment. The second First Post London training scheme was launched in March 2006 and the third and final trainees in September / October 2006.

First Post North
The steering committee for First Post North The Committee comprises of: Skillset, ITV, Sumners, Flix Facilities, The Soundhouse, VTR North, MTNW (Media Training North West) and UK Screen Association.  Skillset have secured funding from Greater Manchester LSC to develop the model for the North and MTNW have commissioned a consultant to start the development work. 

First Post South West
Designed by the industry, for the industry, and supported by the South West Regional Development Agency and South West Screen, this modular scheme will give new talent entering the Post Production world a thorough grounding in technical operations, customer and commercial skills. It will be held over six months, with day release sessions including interactive learning, classroom lectures, visits to different facilities and presentations from industry experts.

Skillset has launched the "Employee Training Courses" which offer employers 80% discount on selected courses for their employees.
